“Castingallee” is the name of the glossy book that collects photos by the photographer Matthias David from the years 2004 to 2009. The title is a reinterpretation of Kastanienallee, the main axis in Prenzlauer Berger Kiez. David's razor-sharp pictures show Robert Stadlober, Daniel Brühl and Laura Osswald, Mieze von Mia, a very young Nora Tschirner and many more. The Berlin celebrities from film, fashion, music and art. They dance, play tennis and look very good. The book is a look at a glossy surface of the city that no longer exists.

Matthias David, born in Bremen in 1978, completed a photography course at the Lette-Verein in Berlin and in the early noughties began photographing the city's celebrities and semi-celebrities as well as international stars - for brands such as Levi's and SEAT, but also for pop culture and lifestyle magazines. The noughties, as the volume shows quite impressively, were not only the last days of cheap rents, but also of print publications. For two of these magazines that no longer exist today - FACE and BLANK - David worked together with Johannes Finke, who today also runs the Bravo Bar in addition to the Herzstückverlag.
